Summary[]
Crying Prologue[]
(クライングプロローグ Kuraingu Purorōgu)
- An unnamed narrator (presumably Kousuke Seto) talks about how he had always had an aspiration rooted within him, influenced by the people in his life. He explains that he wanted to be some existence as if from an illustration, that he wanted to change from someone who would just put up with violence and could not even protect his own heart. He says that that's how it was, or more like how it was supposed to be.
- The narrator calls aspiration a curse and feelings of wanting to be like that would turn into the need to become that, and that you would get stuck in darkess, where real monsters live. He defines monsters as beings that cannot love or be loved and wish misforune on others but the protection of themself, and that those monsters are created by aspiration. He says until now, he had kept hearing those monsters, but resolved that he of all people would never be like that.
- He remembers finding the people he cared for, and how he gained strength from it. Nonetheless, he couldn’t find the courage to not run away. The speaker however believes that it was all for the best.
- He finally states that beyond that aspiration he achieved existed despair and emptiness. After questioning aspiration, happiness and hope, he admits he doesn't know anymore, and that he had already become a monster for being unable to save "her".
Summertime Record side -No. 8-[]
(サマータイムレコード -side No.8- Samātaimu Rekōdo -side No.8-)
- Hibiya has just watched Shintaro, Kido, and Konoha die through Focusing Eyes. Shocked, he wonders what he should've done if he was there, then states the reason his ability chose him had to be because he can't do anything.
Children Record side -No. 8-[]
(チルドレンレコード -side No.8- Chirudoren Rekōdo -side No.8-)
- Following the previous chapter, Hibiya turns off his ability, only to realize that he is on his hands and knees. He recalls the scene shown to him, causing Hibiya to throw up multiple times. He thinks about how ridiculous the name his friends went by was, but acknowledges that they treated him well, but now, they were on the floor, lifeless. He acknowledges that he had seen death back in the Kagerou Daze, yet is still unable to accept their deaths. Hibiya holds back his thoughts of despair, believing that the job of the living is to stand up and do something about it. His thoughts are then interrupted by the chattering of Momo's fans. He watches as her fans immediately get moving just with the words "Momo Kisaragi is there." Hibiya thinks about how even if Momo quit her job, this event would be burned into everyone's memories, and that she was okay with that. He thinks back to their first encounter, and realizes that she had always been like that, and that she had taught him what being a friend was like.
- Takane then complains about their situation. She spots Hibiya staring right at her, and asks him what he's looking at. He thinks to himself on how she used to be energetic as Ene, but gives off the feel of a drained middle-aged woman as Takane. She asks Hibiya how the others are doing, which causes Hibiya to feel anxious. He tells her that it's getting pretty bad, and she asks him if they are hurt, and Hibiya reluctantly tells her that Shintaro and Kido were killed. After silence, she asks if Shintaro kept himself together, and he tells her that he did. Hibiya began to tear up, and thinks about how they cannot do anything for the others. Takane then asks Hibiya if he plays video games, which he replies only "a little" to. She tells Hibiya about how up until high school, she did almost nothing but play games, and that games felt better than real life as you had more than one life in them. Takane tells Hibiya that he reminds her a lot of Shintaro, and then ruffles his hair. Hibiya thinks that he could've told her to quit it, but decided not to. She tells him that she'll be joining the others, and goes into Momo's phone as Ene. Hibiya almost throws the phone, but regains his senses and doesn't proceed. Ene then jokes around, making Hibiya think she'd start laughing at a funeral. Ene then gives him directions on what to do after it's all over, and leaves.
- Hibiya, now alone on the roof, is left experiencing mixed feelings.

- Seto tries to watch TV after a while, but then turns it off out of boredom. The room is then interrupted by cicada cries. He admits that he find them annoying, but thinks about how no matter what they do, they will always die before summer ends. The thought reminds him of a conversation he had with Kano once, where Kano complained about God to him. In his eyes, God was the reason they were suffering. He then ponders that it’s been an hour after Marry went out shopping for food. Seto conjectures that she’ll be back in a few minutes but that she’s likely been sidetracked and that now he’ll have to clean alone. Seto gets worried for Marry but is mad at himself for these qualms as he wants Marry to be independent, but finds this difficult as he’s unable to right a right balance in their relationship.
- Marry comes back and asks Seto what he’s thinking about. Seto answers that he’s pondering the difficulty of finding the right distance in a relationship, but he falls out of his seat and screams at the realization that Marry has returned. He is shocked at how it’s been exactly an hour since she left, and is a bit happy at that. Marry brushes this off and relays that all she did was go home like normal, put off by this, asking Seto if he was worried. Seto responds just a bit, then Marry goes to put the food she got in the fridge. Seto notices that Marry bought an expensive fish, as she had mistook Seto asking her for “flour” as “flounder” and doesn’t understand Seto’s concerns and confusion over this. He decides not to scold her further due to her innocent eyes and worries over their dinner.

- Seto finishes washing the dishes and resorts that he has to work more to get money and support his life with Marry, or else they’ll run out of food as he scolds himself to get it together. Marry staggers in with her pajamas on, causing Seto to think she’s had a nightmare, but to his surprise, she asks if she can help with anything. Seto thinks about how Marry's hair, that was initially long, has become quite short. Seto tells her it’s fine, and she goes back to her room before he can say another thing. He thinks about how Marry must've had a change in heart, which only causes an uneasy feeling, before collapsing on the sofa.
- The next morning, Seto awakes to Marry scolding him, which he found amusing, before getting out of bed. He instantly regret it since he looked “less than decent” and decides he should wear full-body pajamas from now on. Getting ready, Seto goes out to the living room and notices that Marry ate the breakfast he cooked in advance, and sees she’s prepared tea and tells him he missed it. Marry tells Seto there’s a fireworks show she heard from an old man, and Seto tells her they can go to visit it in the evening. Seto explains what stands are to an excited Marry, and he ponders how being with Marry has made him act in unpredictable way. Marry worried that it might be too dark in the evening to see the fireworks, causing an initially confused Seto to laugh right at her. He gives an explanation of fireworks being adjacent to giant flowers of fiery light, Marry responds with happy innocence, before giving the “biggest smile” in the world in Seto’s eyes.
- When they go to the festival Seto guides Marry through the crowds and makes sure she doesn’t get lost. Seto isn’t impressed by the stereotypical festival but Marry is extremely excited, before catching her from running off. Marry asks for money and tries to steal his wallet, ecstatic, which shocks Seto at her change in behavior. Seto makes a bet that if Marry wins in a game against him she can take his wallet, otherwise she must listen to him. Agreeing, they go to a katanuki die cutting stand. The stand owner is the same man who sold the flounder to Marry that other day, before the man mistakes Seto as Marry’s older brother, which Seto goes along with. They go through the tent and select their objects and the game starts, with Marry being aggressive and silencing Seto with “eyes of a winner.” Seto is carving out a boat and being careful, hoping the object with a smaller price will land him victory while Marry does a tulip. She wins, and Seto snaps his boat while trying to go easy on her. Marry is cheered on by the bystanders in the tent and stays back to teach children tips, before Seto tells her if she was having fun she could’ve spent more time in the tent. He does this to ignore the bet they made but fails since she runs off to do another game, “Headphone Actor: Return of the Dancer.” Coming across multiple soldiers, Seto apologizes for her interruption, but Marry wants to go inside of the metal container to play. Seto tries to stop her, but Marry is adamant, so they play against each other again.
- Marry calls Seto a wimp for being scared of the perfectly-fine interior of the container, and although being upset Seto finds it cute that Marry is trying her hardest to prepare for the match. As it starts Seto immediately messes up and is in a frenzy while Marry easily wins. However, Seto notices that Marry cheated using her eye ability, and Marry tries to hide her guilt for doing so. Seto is going to bring Marry out, but he sees the high score list and spots the names of Shintaro, Ene, and Kido, and begins to panic, not understanding why their names are there.
- Marry apologizes to Seto thinking he’s paused out of anger for her cheating, but Seto snatches her hand and begins to sprint out the container. Seto remembers the Mekakushi Dan’s faces and all his memories, all while stumbling he is desperately trying to bring Marry away and out the festival. This causes his eye ability to go out of control, and he begins to hear the bystanders' thoughts. He soon realizes that Marry is nowhere to be found, so he concludes that she has activated Concealing Eyes. He spirals even further, and condemns God for being the "only one who noticed", along with noting how his friends have become drowned out by the cries of the cicadas.[note 1] He then reminds himself that he has known what fate has had in store for everyone since practically forever, and that he won't hesitate anymore. Seto instead wants to keep the fake life they’ve led and says he would gladly do anything for Marry for her sake, and panics that he needs to find her as that is where his happiness lies.
Children Record side -No. 7-[]
(チルドレンレコード -side No.7- Chirudoren Rekōdo -side No.7-)
- After reuniting with Ayano, Shintaro finds himself upset that Ayano had never told him about what she was going through when going to the Kagerou Daze. Shintaro feels that through it all Ayano had a thing for him, and understand shred had secrets to keep from each other, but beyond all, is upset that Ayano kept the truth from him when they’re friends, recounting how shocked he was when he heard about Ayano’s secret life from the Mekakushi-dan. Shintaro doesn’t mind this but finds himself set off that Ayano made rash decisions without thinking about herself, and proudly proclaims to himself he won’t forgive her immediately, but finds himself rolling over to her simpering looks but wonders if she knows how much agony his heart went through in the past years. Ayano calls Shintaro kind which is why she went to the Daze — he counters that she’s the same way, before trying to dispel the awkwardness by acting rude.
- Shintaro ponders the lack of time and sense in the Kagerou Daze. Ayano comments she was surprised to see Shintaro fighting alongside the others but that she always expected him to step up. Shintaro thinks she’s trying to pity him and make him feel better, but she assures she’s telling the truth and that she’s had many and many dreams of Shintaro, including strange ones of him wearing red spandex and posing heroically. Shintaro is frantic finds this odd and repulsed by the “fetish gear” he wears in her dreams, but Ayano blushes as Shintaro ponders the tiring conversation they’re having. However, he feels how she’s shouldering a huge battle.
- Shintaro is glad it isn’t pointless and decides to ask about Ayano’s ability she received. Ayano goes to recite what had happened the day she committed suicide, but Shintaro is upset at how lightly she’s putting it, but stays silent as she tells him to shut up. Ayano decides to showcase her Favoring Eyes to him and explains how she had met Azami, much to Shintaro’s disbelief, and how the Medusa gave her “Opening Eyes” to Takane, all while putting it in a very respectful way, much to Shintaro’s confusion. Ayano activates her ability, Shintaro finds her eyes as an innate attraction. Shintaro sees a memory of Ayano talking to a crying Azami, and once finished, he finds himself crying a bit. Shintaro gets a bit embarrassed as he ponders how much Ayano has suffered in her life before she ended it. Shintaro recalls how he was filled with anger learning what motivated Ayano’s behavior and that he used those feelings to fight. However, he feels disappointed that in the end, he couldn’t save anyone, and they’ve succumbed to this hopelessly cruel story and now everyone is dead.
- Shintaro brings out his phone as a means of contact, and Ayano reminds him that it wouldn’t work when they’re in the Kagerou Daze, but he ruminates on their silly goal to never give up, and claims they have a certain person on the other side who can help make this happen.
Summertime Record side -No. 2- (3)[]
(サマータイムレコード -side No.2(3)- Samātaimu Rekōdo -side No.2(3)-)
- Seto has ran away from the summer festival. Although he feels that he has not gained his rationality back, he is calmer as he is unable to hear any more thoughts. He sits down by river and thinks about Marry, angry at himself for acting so recklessly. He doesn't believe he should be able to see her anymore, as tears begin to stream down. He recalls the day he watched everyone die, leaving only him and Marry, and brought her, who was unconscious, back to the hideout. When she woke up, she flashed him a smile. Seto did not understand how nor why she could smile after all that, and jumps to the conclusion that she lost her memories. He didn't want to make her sad, so he didn't tell her the truth and instead decided to throw away everything and dedicate his whole life to her.
- He took a look at the river, and saw the city lights reflect off of it. Seeing them as a symbol of someone's life, he feels disgusted. He states that nobody is free from darkness, and that the world itself, that looks beautiful at first glance, is more like hell when you peel off one layer. He recalls the day he met Marry. On the day, he ran away from the city because everything began to sound like Kano. He found the love and kindness his family gave him to be regrettable, and the moment he thought that they might hate him, his snake would go out of control. When he had wandered around in the forest, he heard Marry's voice, which sounded beautiful to him. He did not want to dye her pure heart with darkness and wished to become strong for her. He now recalls the day he found out about Clearing Eyes residing in his father. He is sure that he was neglecting his family and friends, causing his heart to become ugly and corrupt.
- On the night Kano broke down, Seto kept up his usual demeanor instead of saying what he really wanted to say, and then states that Kano really was the same as him. He tells himself that Marry and her happiness was all that mattered, and that that was what he supposedly decided, but he knew that he was wrong. At the thought of that, he remembers Ene telling him that she was going in, because Seto was the only one capable of protecting Marry now. Out of instinct, he takes out his phone, but nothing was there except a picture of Marry. He gets angry at himself for being the person going on about protecting Marry, as he was the one being protected all his life. He wishes to see everyone again, but gets interrupted by Marry, who is using Opening Eyes. She asks him if he is feeling lonely, and he asks where she is, and tells her that he'll go right now, but is left pained after saying it. He remembers deceiving Marry and trying to forget his friends, and realizes that his actions hadn't been for Marry's sake. He decides to tell her the truth, but she tells him that she also needs to tell him something.
- He walks over to the place Marry told him to meet her at, and feels awful for assuming she didn't know anything. He tells himself that everything is surely going to end today, but is still shocked when he finds Marry in her queen form. Marry apologizes to Seto for lying to him, and says that she never forgot the battle in the first place. Seto is once again confused on how she could smile after sobbing at the death of her friends, but then finally understands that she did it so he wouldn't be sad. Hibiya walks up to the place Seto and Marry are at, and reveals that he is alive. He tells Seto that he didn't intend to surprise him, and then talks to Marry. Seto realizes the hard work that Marry and Hibiya had done, and that Marry was not afraid to taint her heart. Feeling pathetic, he breaks down into tears. Marry embraces him and tells him that he shouldn't berate himself for it. In his head, Seto tells Marry to stop it, and that he does not deserve anything from her. Marry then tells him that he is the reason she came to love the world, and he looks up at Marry. He sees her tears, and thinks they are beautiful, and ends up allowing himself to cry. He thinks about how all he wanted was to protect her and get out of the endless summer, and admits that if God didn't want him to live with his friends beyond the summer, he would want to live past the summer with Marry.

- After finishing his crying session, Seto, Marry and Hibiya are about to contact the Kagerou Daze. Hibiya complains about how Ene gets the craziest ideas, and yells "Big Bro" at Momo's phone. Hibiya hands Seto the phone, and he puts it up to his ear and says hello. When he hears Shintaro respond, he goes on to apologize for trying to forget about them. Shintaro guesses that Seto did it because the latter thought he was doing it for Marry's sake, and that there was no helping it. Seto is shocked by the accuracy, and thinks about how Shintaro hasn't changed at all.
- While Shintaro attempts to continue the conversation, Ayano snatches the phone from him and cries while apologizing to Seto for going into the Kagerou Daze by herself. She gives it to Kido, and she greets him as well, before Rin starts getting annoyed at her for using "ore" instead of "watashi" when referring to herself. Ene then tells Shintaro to let her talk to him as well. Haruka then takes the phone to ask Seto if he remembers him, and spots Kano walking away out of embarrassment, but says he'll drag him back later. Momo then takes the phone and asks Seto if she can talk to Marry after he's done, and Shintaro takes the phone back and tells everyone to shut up.
- Seto is left a bit overwhelmed from this, but he gets back on track with the conversation with Shintaro. He thinks about how it must be just as tiring for him down at the Kagerou Daze. Shintaro tells Seto that nobody has a grudge against him, but says that he needs to make one last confirmation. He asks Seto what he intends to do with the future, which results in silence. Seto looks down at Marry, who has grabbed his hand. Fully confident in his response, he tells Shintaro that he wants to reset the timeline again.
Summertime Record side -No. 10-[]
(サマータイムレコード -side No.10- Samātaimu Rekōdo -side No.10-)
- In the Kagerou Daze, the others hand the phone to Hiyori, even though she said not to. She goes over her life and thinks it was fine. Annoyed by Hibiya's crying, she decides to tell him that she loves him and wants him to save her in the next world before hanging up.
Summertime Record side -No. 7-[]
(サマータイムレコード -side No.7- Samātaimu Rekōdo -side No.7-)
- Shintaro thinks about how people say that they've gone a long way, but says that they haven't gone nearly as far as he did, being in a whole other world. Ayano asks him what he's thinking about, and he responds saying that he was thinking about his friends. Shintaro mentions that Haruka told him that the Kagerou Daze created scenery based on what reflected in one's heart, and that his was quite boring. Ayano and his Kagerou Daze was just a road they took to and from their high school, and that if that was what their daze was, it made him look like he lived a mundane life. Ayano talks about how they decided to reset the timeline again, and Shintaro tells her that he expected it to end like that. He thinks about how nobody would believe them if anyone heard about what happened, and that even if they did, it would've been a waste of effort since they just did what Clearing Eyes wanted. Ayano questions if there was even a point to fighting it, and they converse about it again, before she asks how many times they've talked about that topic. Shintaro thinks they've done it hundreds of times, and that they never got bored of it. They then talk about Clearing Eyes, and how it likely had a consciousness of its own, and that the events that occurred probably happened more than once. Ayano asks Shintaro if he considers her a friend, but he doesn't answer and instead feels that he will not forget the events and friends he met along the way. He finally answers with "who knows?", and they continue to walk down the road.
Marie's Fictional World[]
(Marry no Kakuu Sekai) (マリーの架空世界 Marī no Kakū Sekai)

She remembers seeing all sorts of people outside, and soon going on adventures with many friends and laughing. But, when they fought against Clearing Eyes, they lost, which really frustrated her. She then remembers making a promise with the prince that they would meet again in the next world.
