Children Record II (チルドレンレコードＩＩ Chirudoren Rekōdo II) is the thirty-ninth chapter of the Kagerou Daze manga.
Summary[]
- Kano is walking through the city in search of Kido, who isn't answering to any text messages. He thinks about Marry and how she questioned him earlier, but he runs into Konoha along the way. Before he can question him about Kido, Momo interrupts them by running up to them and abruptly stopping in between the two. Kano comments on their coincidental meeting and then turns his attention to Konoha, asking if he had found Hiyori. He shakes his head and, as he begins to explain what had happened, he turns his attention to a dark alleyway and his eyes widen. Kano follows his gaze to the alley as well, but at that moment, the scene switches to the café.
- In the café, Shintaro explains the situation around Momo's eye ability. It began sometime around when she was in grade school, and because of it, she had a lot of terrible experiences. In a short flashback, Shintaro is ripping apart a bunch of letters for Momo while glaring at a crowd in front of his house. As he is doing this Momo is sitting in her room trembling out of fear and crying. He explains that she has learned how to control her ability and is now working as a pop idol. Since she is almost at the point of living her life in peace, he cannot allow anything else bad to happen to her. Ayano notes that he must care a lot for his sister and decides to tell him the whole story.
- Shintaro, Hibiya, and she are now walking down the sidewalk while Shintaro tries to contact his sister, but she isn't replying. Exasperated, he says how the whole situation sounds like a joke, to which Ayano offers to show him all of the memories directly. For a moment, he looks at her with confusion but denies her offer after Hibiya says that he couldn't stomach any food after she showed him the memories. Ayano teases him by saying that he didn't trust her earlier, but he explains that while he doesn't believe everything she had said, he has to help his sister if she is in danger. This strikes a chord with Ayano since she has siblings as well, so she smiles at him and says that they might be more alike than different. Shintaro gets embarrassed by this and changes the subject back to the Snake of Clearing Eyes. He questions why it is even trying to create a medusa, so Ayano explains that in Azami's memories, it said that it is doing that so the wish never has to end. While she isn't sure what it meant by that, she knows that the snake's ability is to fulfill wishes. Hibiya chimes in, asking what they would do to the person that is possessed by the Snake of Clearing Eyes. He trembles as he talks about the possibility of Hiyori being possessed by it.
- The scene changes back to the alleyway where Kano briefly remembers his first meeting with Kido outside of the juvenile care facility. In the dark alley, Kido's body is lying against a wall with blood covering her entire chest. Next to her is Hiyori, with blood covering her hands and dress and Momo sees that the girl's eyes are colored red.
